Overview

About the Flip Image

Flip any image free online — mirror it left-to-right or top-to-bottom. Ideal for correcting mirrored selfies and scans, rendered in your browser, nothing uploaded.

Mirroring versus flipping versus rotating

A horizontal flip reflects the image across a vertical axis, a vertical flip across a horizontal axis, and a 180 rotation does both at once. Knowing which you need matters: an un-mirrored selfie wants a horizontal flip, an upside-down scan wants 180 rotation or a vertical flip depending on how it is wrong.

The selfie mirror problem

Front cameras show you a mirror because that is what feels natural in a preview, but the captured frame is often the mirrored view too. Faces are subtly asymmetric, so the mirrored version looks 'off' to you even though it is what others see. One horizontal flip restores familiarity.

Scans, transparencies and artwork

Film negatives, overhead-projector transparencies and some duplex scans arrive reversed. Flipping corrects them instantly. For artwork, a mirror is also a classic critique trick: seeing the composition reversed makes imbalance obvious.

Lossless and on-device

The mirror is an exact pixel exchange with no resampling, exported as PNG on your machine. Nothing is uploaded and no detail is softened.

Step by step

How to use the Flip Image

  1. Drop an image onto the upload area or browse for one.

  2. Choose the flip axis: horizontal (mirror) or vertical.

  3. Inspect the preview — text and logos read reversed when mirrored.

  4. Download the flipped PNG at full original resolution.

Why use it

Benefits and common use cases

What this tool is good for, and what it deliberately does not try to do.

Un-mirror selfies and front cameras

Front-facing cameras preview a mirror image; the saved photo can look 'wrong' to you. A horizontal flip restores the view everyone else sees.

Correct scanned documents

Scans placed face-down or fed the wrong way come out flipped; one click puts them the right way round without re-scanning.

Exact, lossless, local

Flipping is a pure pixel mirror with no interpolation and no quality loss, performed entirely on your device.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Short, honest answers about quality, limits and privacy.

What is the difference between horizontal and vertical flip?

Horizontal flip mirrors left and right (like a reflection in a window); vertical flip mirrors top and bottom (like a reflection in water). Rotating 180 is not the same as either single flip.

Will mirrored text become readable again?

If the image was captured mirrored (as with some selfies or transparency scans), a horizontal flip restores readable text. If the text was originally correct, flipping will reverse it.

Does flipping change file dimensions?

No. A mirror keeps width and height identical; only pixel positions are exchanged across the chosen axis.
