Enlarging a picture means creating pixels that were not in the original. Every upscaler has to decide what colour those new pixels take. The simplest answer — copy the nearest existing pixel — produces visible blocks. This tool instead resamples with the browser's high-quality interpolation, and does it in stages: the image is doubled repeatedly until it is close to the target, then drawn to the exact final size. Each small step guesses new pixels from a smooth blend of real neighbours, which is why a 1000 px thumbnail can reach 4K without turning into a mosaic.
Resampling alone leaves an image slightly soft, because blending neighbours averages away the crisp transitions at edges. An unsharp mask puts that bite back: it compares each pixel with the ones around it and pushes edges apart, increasing local contrast exactly where the eye reads detail. The slider runs from 0 to 100, so a portrait can take a gentle 30% while a scanned document or a product shot can take more. Too high, and bright halos appear along strong edges — dial it back if you see them.
It would be easy to call any enlargement tool an AI enhancer, and many sites do. This one is not. A neural upscaler has been trained on millions of images and can hallucinate a plausible eyelash, brick or letter where the original had only a blur. Resampling and sharpening have no such model: they work only with the pixels you supply. The practical consequence is that the tool is excellent at making a small-but-sharp image larger and crisper, and useless at recovering detail that was never captured. A blurry, out-of-focus or heavily compressed source will come out bigger and a little tighter, but not genuinely more detailed. Knowing that difference is what stops you wasting time on a photo that needed a re-shoot.
The longest edge is what you set: 1280, 1920, 2560, 3840 (4K) or 7680 (8K). The shorter edge follows the aspect ratio. Output can be PNG or JPG. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, but at 8K it is enormous — a detailed 7680 × 4320 PNG can pass 100 MB and approach 200 MB, because every one of the roughly 33 million pixels is stored exactly. JPG trades transparency and a little fine detail for a file that is often twenty times smaller, which is usually the right choice for an 8K photograph you intend to share or print. If a render fails, it is almost always memory: an 8K canvas needs several gigabytes inside the tab, so switching to JPG or 4K, or closing other tabs, normally fixes it. Whatever you choose, the whole process runs on a local canvas — nothing is uploaded, no account is needed and no watermark is added.
