GIF is ancient and inefficient: a 256-colour palette and frame-by-frame storage make even a simple banner heavy. When you only need the picture — a logo, badge, sticker or thumbnail — re-encoding that still to WebP gives you the same transparency and far better compression in a format every modern browser reads.
Two decisions shape the result. WebP keeps the alpha channel a transparent GIF carried, so cut-out artwork stays cleanly edged rather than landing on a solid box. The quality slider then sets how hard the codec compresses: flat graphics tolerate 75-85% with no visible change, while detailed images want 90% or more. The size figure updates live so you can pick the balance per image.
Up to twenty files convert in one run, each up to 25 MB, processed one at a time so memory stays predictable, with a summary of size before and after. Each result is named after its source with a .webp extension. Nothing is uploaded: the decode, the re-encode and every download happen inside the tab, with no account and no watermark, because there is no server on the other end.
