Anatomy of a glitch

The effect layers two classic corruption looks. First, the red and blue channels are shifted horizontally by a few pixels, producing the coloured fringing of chromatic aberration and bad signal sync. Second, random horizontal slices of the image are slid left or right, imitating the tearing of a corrupted video frame or a datamoshed encode.

Why does it look different each time?

The slice positions are randomly generated, so every render produces a unique tear pattern. That randomness is part of the glitch aesthetic — re-drop the file to roll again.

How is this different from a chromatic aberration filter?

Chromatic aberration only offsets colour channels. This tool adds slice displacement on top, so you get both the RGB fringe and the torn, corrupted bands.

What intensity looks best?

30-50% gives a subtle, wearable glitch for thumbnails and avatars. 70-100% is full datamosh chaos, best for art where readability matters less than impact.
