Genuine painterly texture
The oil-paint algorithm groups neighbouring pixels by intensity and averages the dominant band, producing the soft, blended strokes of a real oil painting.

Overview
Create an oil painting effect free online — render any photo with brushy, painterly strokes using an intensity-based oil-paint filter and a brush-size slider. No upload.
An oil painting builds an image from strokes of pigment that blend at their edges, smoothing fine detail into broad planes of colour. Reproducing that digitally means suppressing noise while keeping the major shapes and colour transitions.
We use the classic oil-paint algorithm: around each pixel we bin the neighbourhood by intensity, pick the bin with the most pixels, and average the colours within it. The dominant band wins, so textures collapse into smooth, painterly regions with soft edges.
The filter runs per pixel on an in-browser canvas with a brush-size slider, and the result is exported as a lossless PNG at full resolution, so your photo never leaves your device.
Step by step
Drop a photo onto the upload area — portraits and landscapes paint well.
Set the brush-size slider to control how chunky the strokes look.
Fine detail melts into soft, blended painterly regions.
Download the oil-painting PNG at full original resolution.
Why use it
What this tool is good for, and what it deliberately does not try to do.
The oil-paint algorithm groups neighbouring pixels by intensity and averages the dominant band, producing the soft, blended strokes of a real oil painting.
A small brush keeps detail while a large one turns the photo into broad, impressionistic sweeps of colour.
The filter runs per pixel on an in-browser canvas and exports a lossless PNG, so nothing is uploaded.
