Overview
Convert any image to strict black and white with a luminance threshold — no greys at all. Make bold two-tone graphics in your browser, nothing uploaded.
A grayscale image preserves a smooth ramp of greys; a thresholded image does not. Here, each pixel's luminance is compared against a mid-point: at or above becomes pure white, below becomes pure black. The result is graphic and high-impact, closer to a woodcut or a stencil than to a photograph.
Single-colour reproduction — screen prints, vinyl decals, rubber stamps, fax headers and plotter cuts — can only lay ink or not lay it. Two-tone artwork maps perfectly to that constraint. It also makes extremely legible icons and pictograms, because there is no mid-tone to muddy an edge at small sizes.
Photos threshold best when they already have strong separation between subject and background. Flat, evenly lit images collapse into blobs because most pixels sit near the threshold; running the brightness or a contrast pass first pushes tones apart and yields a far cleaner silhouette.
The pixel loop touches each channel once, so even large images convert in milliseconds on a local canvas. The output PNG stores only two values, and because everything runs in your browser, the source never leaves your machine.
