Overview

About the Mirror Image (Symmetry)

Create a mirror symmetry effect free online by reflecting one half of a photo onto the other, horizontally or vertically. In your browser with CollabsTool.

What mirror symmetry does

Instead of reversing the whole image, a mirror effect copies one half and reflects it across the centre line, replacing the other half. The result is a perfectly symmetrical picture — the left side equals the right, or the top equals the bottom.

Why symmetry is compelling

Humans are drawn to symmetry. Mirroring a face produces an uncanny, balanced portrait; mirroring a landscape or object creates kaleidoscopic, almost abstract art. It is a quick way to turn an ordinary photo into something graphic and eye-catching.

Mirror versus flip

A flip turns the entire image over, so everything reverses but stays intact. A mirror keeps one half and duplicates it as a reflection, so the two halves become identical. They look similar at a glance but produce very different results.

Runs on your device

The reflection is copied per pixel on an in-browser canvas and exported as a lossless PNG, so your photo stays private and full resolution.

Step by step

How to use the Mirror Image (Symmetry)

  1. Drop a photo with a centred subject onto the upload area.

  2. Choose the axis: left-right or top-bottom reflection.

  3. The mirrored half replaces the other for perfect symmetry.

  4. Download the symmetrical PNG at full original resolution.

Why use it

Benefits and common use cases

What this tool is good for, and what it deliberately does not try to do.

Instant symmetry art

Reflecting one half over the other turns faces, landscapes and objects into striking, perfectly balanced symmetry — a popular style for avatars and abstract art.

Both axes

A single toggle switches between a left-right reflection and a top-bottom reflection, giving two very different symmetrical compositions from the same photo.

Local and lossless

The reflection is copied per pixel on an in-browser canvas and exported as PNG, so your image is processed privately at full resolution.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Short, honest answers about quality, limits and privacy.

How is this different from flipping an image?

A flip reverses the entire picture, like looking at it in a mirror held to the side. Mirror symmetry keeps one half and reflects it over the other, so the two halves become identical.

Which half is kept?

For left-right it keeps the left half and reflects it rightward; for top-bottom it keeps the top half and reflects it downward. Centre your subject for the best result.

What photos look best mirrored?

Faces and objects with a strong central subject produce dramatic, kaleidoscopic symmetry. Off-centre subjects create more abstract, surreal compositions.
