What mirror symmetry does
Instead of reversing the whole image, a mirror effect copies one half and reflects it across the centre line, replacing the other half. The result is a perfectly symmetrical picture — the left side equals the right, or the top equals the bottom.

How is this different from flipping an image?
A flip reverses the entire picture, like looking at it in a mirror held to the side. Mirror symmetry keeps one half and reflects it over the other, so the two halves become identical.
Which half is kept?
For left-right it keeps the left half and reflects it rightward; for top-bottom it keeps the top half and reflects it downward. Centre your subject for the best result.
What photos look best mirrored?
