What a vignette does optically
Real lenses transmit less light at the corners than at the centre, so photographs naturally carry a subtle edge falloff. Adding a vignette reproduces or exaggerates that falloff, darkening toward the corners while leaving the centre at full brightness.

How strong should a vignette be?
For a natural lens look, 20-40% is usually enough to feel without being noticed. Above 60% becomes a deliberate dramatic frame; beyond that corners go near-black and can look heavy.
Does it darken the whole image?
No. The factor is 1 at the centre and falls off with distance, so the middle stays untouched while edges and corners darken progressively.
Can I add a light vignette instead of dark?
This tool darkens only. For a bright, airy edge you would invert the idea — but a dark falloff is the classic vignette and the one offered here.
